When a solar eclipse sends a colossal blast of super chilled air towards the earth, it then sets off a catastrophic chain of events that threatens to engulf the world in ice and begin a new Ice Age.

So what do you do on your first day off and it's in the 90's outside? You watch a cheesy movie about an Arctic Blast killing people all over the world. Disaster films are always so much fun aren't they? Arctic Blast was made for a Canada TV network and fits the SyFy network mold perfectly.

Director Brain Trenchard-Smith has given us some celluloid classics such as BMX-Bandits, Dead End Drive-In, and Night of the Demons Two! But he has also given Horror Fans Leprechaun 3 and ugh 4 In Space. So how would this 2010 thriller hold up, well not to bad I guess? It is a same old same old plot scientist works for a big company that does not want to listen to him on how to fix the problem and when the big bad dude (played by Brice Davison) fails, of course, our hero gets his shot. Oh and he has to save his family and co-worker along with the world just to sprinkle in more thrills.

The cast is great and very well blended  playing off of each other in a very good manner. The Special Effects are CGI that works from time to time but fail badly in parts. The "Ice Crystal Fog" at times look really hooky. At one point I found myself chuckling at some of the effects that take you out of the movie. But for the budget they had it was ok, I will not pick on it too much. When things froze over and people have frozen the look and feel were really good.

Arctic Blast has plenty of opportunities to be better with the plot holes with that said tho it was entertaining for the most part. I would not seek this one out but if you were bored and it was on SyFy feel free to watch it. It will do one of two things, give you something interesting to watch or help you with a nap!
